Important news regarding the Cardon Banfield Foundation from its Founder
The Foundation is to close from today.
In February this year, Moybul Ali took over from me as Chief Executive after I stood down.
I did so for the reasons of a new career path and to put my time into other things which were important to me. I never regretted the decision and it was certainly the right one. I remained as a key advisor to Moybul.
In the months since, Moybul has struggled to reignite the Foundation and its aims, through no fault of his own and has therefore stood down as Chief Executive.
I pay respect to Moybul taking the position as CEO on and fully understand the pressures of his role. It isn’t easy to lead a charitable organisation in any respect and it’s even harder when it’s run by volunteers alongside full time employment.
As Founder, this was a difficult situation to be in. The memory of Cardon Banfield lives long and forever, and the Foundation in his name is testament to the work that has been done to seek justice in his name.
For over 10 years the organisation has helped charities, local authorities and individuals seek better ways of addressing homelessness and rough sleeping - and achieved life changing responses and new ways of working.
I again want to pay tribute to those organisations and leaders for their help and ability to work with us.
I extend a multitude of thanks and gratitude to the volunteers over the last decade who have believed in the cause and aims. It is only with them that we managed to make the amazing change that has helped save lives.
However, I have decided to close the Cardon Banfield Foundation effective from today.
This decision has not been easy. We could have found another Chief Executive to lead, however, it feels to me like the detachment of leadership from the name and memory of Cardon Banfield could take the organisation away from the values and ethos it was set up in.
This is not to say no one else could run it, but it’s one way of preserving the memory of a man who was nearly forgotten had it not been for the activism that eventually created the Foundation in 2015.
I always maintained that charity should only exist until the problem is solved - and whilst homelessness is far from being solved, other organisations in the sector are working towards it.
I’m extremely proud that the Cardon Banfield Foundation played a fundamental part in the reduction of homelessness and in that vain, the website will not be updated after its closure, nor taken down but instead will serve as an archive for the future.
It has been an honour to found and lead this organisation both as CEO & advisor to my successor and it will forever be in the legacy of Cardon Gideon Banfield (1942-2016).
In his memory and respect, goodbye.
